Ringing Out 2008

My New Years Eve was probably one of the most interesting that I have had in a while. Emily, Tiffany, her friend Laura and I were in Georgetown at the Marriott for an evening with the young single adults and lets just say that we wont be doing that ever again. When we arrived around 10:30 we were sorely disappointed. First off, the decorations consisted of two lackluster balloon arches on either ends of the ballroom which were weighed down by red Coleman coolers. We thought, "Hmm ok the decorations are bad but at least there should be some good food." Que disappointment #2.

We get to the food table and there is a shambled and sloppily put together spread of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Yes we went to a New Years Eve party that served PB&J. At each of the ends of the table there were 2 gallons of juice and a very small water cooler. After the 2 gallons of juice were gone they were gone and none reappeared for the rest of the night. There was no water in the coolers and it took about an hour to get someone to refill them. It was a complete disaster. We really could not imagine how some person was like, YES! This will be a great thing to serve at the dance. I would have been more understanding if we had spent a lot of money on the ballroom and there was not money in the budget to cater...or heat up some Costco Taquitos...but the room was donated by Brother Marriott himself. We spent no money on it.

Not only was the food and decorations terrible, the people strange, the lights up, but all in all it was just not an overly pleasant place to be. I thought by 11 o'clock we were going to have to start counting down the seconds until 2009 because the dance was so boring...3,600...3,599...3,598...

It was about that time when we decided that we were going to sneak into one of the other parties being held in a different ballroom across the hotel. We were not really sure what the party was...maybe something political but it was a lot better than ours. There was an open bar, good food, lots of music and drunken dancing. We were pretty sure that people were paying around $1,000 a head to be in attendance but the 4 of us just slipped right past the check in and the security. It was only when we were leaving that we noticed that everyone else around us was wearing brightly colored wrist bands and that there was large security detail walking around. Needless to say we had a pretty good time at that party.

Other than crashing the politics party, the only good part about the night is that we all looked really good. We just hope that the YSA dance is not indicative of our year to come but washing our hands clean from the year that was 2008.
Happy New Year!

This is the most hilarious post ever. I felt like I was right there with you guys. Good move going to Plan B (the other party).
